My Students

My students are 5th graders from primarily low-income families in high-trauma situations. Despite their struggles and burdens, my students come excited to be at school. They look forward to every new day. They truly astound me with their resilience and positive outlook.

A little about my kids: they are bright and inquisitive.

Many of my students love art and science. They live and breathe creativity! They also love comics, fantasy books, animal books, and anything that involves magic.

Help me keep their excitement going and their amazing hope alive!

My Project

Have you ever read a difficult book and felt confused? That feeling of confusion while reading is something that many of my students experience on a daily basis when they try to read. A majority of my students speak English as their second language or are below-level readers. Due to this, reading traditional chapter books is often very frustrating and discouraging.

However, my students rarely stop trying to find books that they'll enjoy; it's because of this that I want to be able to supply my students with graphic novels!

The beauty of graphic novels is that even if the words are confusing, the pictures help readers understand.

Help me gift my students with books that can engage them with colorful graphics, while also challenging them to read!
