Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic and curious learners ranging from two years old through fifth grade. They have different identifications including autism and developmental delays, and all students are working to improve their expressive, receptive, and social language skills.
My students come from culturally diverse families with a variety of socioeconomic challenges.
My school has a large population of children with special needs and English Language Learners.
Now that my students will be attending in-person instruction I am excited to provide them with hands-on materials and activities that will excite them and help them communicate!
My Project
My students are so excited to be back in school and learning in-person! They have been working hard on improving their expressive, receptive, and pragmatic language skills but doing so while wearing masks and social distancing is hard. Using hands on materials and stimulating visuals helps to keep them engaged as we maneuver through this year.
I am hoping for materials that will allow me to provide my students with more visuals and engaging activities to enhance sessions so my students fully benefit from their learning experiences.
This year has been a learning experience for all of us. In addition, schools have experienced difficulty procuring supplies, especially ink and toner for printers. My students need colorful, engaging materials to address their needs. Many of my students need increased visual supports to aid their communication. The materials I am requesting will aid me in this effort. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards will help me provide stimulating language rich materials for my students. The laminating sheets, Velcro, sheet protectors, and ink will be utilized to make communication boards, sentence strips, and manipulatives for a variety of activities.
