Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I'm not sure who is more confused: my students who are in their first year of middle school, or myself, a first year teacher.
I teach 6th grade English/Social Studies cored classes (and reading elective) at a school that is 95% free lunch-qualified. Our school serves mostly Latino, Filipino, African-American, and Pacific Islander students and families in Los Angeles. It seems that my 120 students are often getting confused between the two subjects that I teach them. Color-coding seems to be the key for my students, and so far, it's been a success. Pink for Language Arts and green for Ancient Civilizations. All the important handouts, tracking sheets, and so on are in those colors. (I'm even thinking of letting my students dye my hair one of those colors if we meet our big goals by the end of the year...or maybe I'll just stick to colored paper.)
In order to help my students keep their classes straight, I would greatly appreciate the following:
-reams of pink and green copier paper (pastel, bold, brights... anything, so long as they are pink and green, and suitable for copying)
-pink and green card stock
-stickers for tracking sheets
-ream of butcher paper (white)
Thank you for taking the time to help out a new teacher!
