My students come from varying backgrounds. They are full of energy and love to play. The majority of them have not benefited from being in preschool and are starting from the very beginning of their educational journey.
They are getting used to the classroom environment and are learning how to interact with each other, be considerate of others.
It has only been a couple weeks into the school year, and they've started to adjust nicely. I'm excited to see how they progress throughout the year!
My Project
Learning proper position will quickly give my students the extra help they need. Both the pencil grips and the slant boards encourage proper positioning for their fingers and wrists. The pencil grips allow students to quickly position their fingers with a tripod grip so they are ready to write or draw and not struggling to figure out the proper grip until I can get to them. The slant boards force students to hold their wrist in the correct position for writing and drawing. The slant boards are a fun tool for 'writing the room'. We go on a letter or sight word scavenger hunts when we 'write the room'. Drawing, coloring, and writing all start here and the foundation must be strong. Holding a pencil or crayon might seem simple, but it can be a monstrous task for those who have had minimal exposure to.
Special tools tailored to support learning proper technique will give my students great practice, help them gain confidence and build their self-esteem.
The two games have 'squeezy tweezers' to encourage grasping. The games also promote sorting and numeracy skills.
Kindergarten is an exciting time for children, and not everyone has the support they need at home. This project and the items I've listed will go a long way to helping them meet their goals.
