My students come from trauma filled lives, yet continue to push themselves to attend high school to get their high school diplomas. Not only are their lives trauma filled, but they also speak little to no English and attending high school, while they are trying to learn English, but it is also extremely hard to blend in with the other students while carrying around books that are leveled for Elementary reading levels.
Our students are not able to learn in a traditional setting, and not knowing English on top of it, can be very frustrating and confusing.
But my students continuously surprise me by their resiliency and their drive to continue to tackle even the hardest of challenges.
Many of my students do not have the funds available to purchase even the basics of school supplies, and with this pandemic many really cannot afford to buy things that will help them to be successful in school. This is where we need desperately need help with the purchase of basic supplies and that's where your help comes in.
It has been scientifically proven and observed time after time (at least in my classroom), that color leads to remembrance.
Having access to colored pencils and markers for my students at home will allow the students to complete their work during Distance Learning and Hybrid learning.
So the students will be able to complete their learning and see their learning in their interactive notebooks come to life.
There is just something about taking notes in different colors that the students remember what is written, and if they cannot definitively recall, they know that the picture colored in green in our notebook mentioned what they need to know and therefore they will be able to find it quicker and feel confident about their learning.
