Our students come from a variety of different backgrounds and experiences. To many of our students, Brooklyn is a new, foreign place to live and learn. Many of our students come from across the globe, speaking multiple languages. Our class is comprised of 30 students and two collaborating teachers. We have students who are role models; appropriate social skills, academically at or above grade level, and are overall kindhearted. We also have a portion of students who have learning disabilities and sensory needs. These students struggle academically and socially and require more supports to access the general education curriculum.
Overall, our students are imaginative, inquisitive, inventive and very lovable!
They are blossomed critical thinkers and flourish in our project-based classroom. They thrive on getting their hands dirty, exploring their environment and learning.
My Project
As a project based school, we do a lot of activities that require color copies! As second graders, we have two units of study; NYC subway and Birds. Our second grade bird study requires a lot of activities that involve looking at pictures of birds. To really understand birds and their field marks (what make each species of birds unique) students really need to see pictures of birds in color to better identify them when we look for them in the community.
Color copies are integral to their exploration of birds!
The use of a color printer will allow the second grade teachers to print at the school instead of using their personal printers or having to go a local staples to print in color. It will allow the students to have more access to pictures since individual laptops and iPads are not available. In addition, having a color copies from a colored printer will give the students a bases to create works of art that are reflective of pictures that are true to nature.
