I am a high school teacher who teach Graphic Design I & II as well as Computer Applications I. I am employed in an inner city school where approximately 90% of students are economically disadvantaged. My classes are comprised of 38 graphic design students and 20 computer application students. The printer in this classroom broke down about 2 weeks ago and we have no means of printing our activities. The graphic design classes do excellent activities and projects, but it does not have the effect on students if they can not print. We have to improvise in Computer Applications to provide vocabulary study guides, etc. because we can't print. I know that my students are missing out on more wonderful activities and experiences because I have to modify assignments because they always ask, "can we print today". I have to use instructional time to grade assignments/projects because I have to view them from the monitor. This is time consuming and takes away from other things I could do with my classes. They will surely benefit from having a printer and especially in a computer/technology class. Having a printer would afford the students' the opportunity to see their work displayed in the classroom and in the hallways. Parents and visitors would also be able to see the wonderful activities and projects of the students while visiting the school. A printer is essential and will have a positive effect toward the success of each student. Thank you in advance.
