My students come from many different backgrounds as we are a diverse group. Our district is a low-income district, with approximately 50% of our families qualifying for free or reduced lunch and/or facing other challenges both at home and at school.
Despite the challenges that many of the children face, they come to school eager to learn and work.
They are a social, energetic group who enjoy working in groups and doing hands-on projects, and many of them put their creativity to great use in their wonderful writing.
My students need a color printer and printer ink for our classroom. Currently, our school copiers only print and copy in black ink. There are so many uses for a printer (especially one that prints in color) in the classroom.
A color printer will help bring life into student research projects by allowing them to add photographs and illustrations to help teach others about their topic.
This adds visual interest to their reports. Additionally, having a printer right in the room would allow me to print notes as needed for any students who may have difficulty copying from the board due to disabilities or injuries. I would be able to access these notes and hand them out to students immediately, instead of having to wait until later in the day when I have a chance to get to the copy room. I will also be able to print lesson notes for students who have been absent and missed the lesson, and printing them in color helps students see related/grouped information, visually organizes the notes, and helps students retain the information being presented. Finally, when students type and share their written work (such as personal narrative stories) with me, I will be able to immediately print their work so they can begin making any revisions and/or editing corrections that same day. Having a color printer in our classroom would really benefit students in many ways!
