Imagine you are seven years old. You move to a new country, and one morning you walk into a new classroom. You may not have ever had any formal education before. You may have never read or written, and you have this smiling teacher talking to you in a language you don't understand. These are the students I teach every day.
My second grade special education classroom is in a lovely elementary school that sits surrounded by public housing projects in the poorest neighborhood in a poor city.
Nestled among refugee and immigrant students from all over the world are students that were born and raised in the United States but are growing up in poverty. Many are victims of abuse and neglect. Many bounce from foster home to foster home. Many students are homeless and move from shelter to shelter. All the while, they do their best to come to school every day and learn.
Even through these dire conditions, stars still shine, and these children succeed against all odds.
My Project
Have you ever tried to look at a detailed picture that has been printed (or worse...re-copied from an old hard copy in a file) in black and white? Think about studying the beautiful peacocks of the world looking at black and white printouts.
How much do you think you would learn about chameleons if you were not able see their many brilliant colors and how they can change their skin color to blend in with their environment?
These are examples of what our students are asked to do every day. They deserve better, and the HP Color printer will help!
