This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My curious, motivated, and inspiring students are eager to learn! My school qualifies for universal free breakfast and lunch due to our 90% free or reduced-price lunch status. Our students and their families live in an economically disadvantaged community.
My inspiring and inspired students deserve every opportunity to experience hands-on learning.
In first and second grade, students enjoy adding colorful details to their work using crayons. We're also learning to annotate texts using four color pens. Crayons and pens are basic tools which are not readily available in our school supply closet.
My Project
A new year means time for new Crayola crayons. We recently cleaned out our student toolkits and replaced our broken crayons with new ones. We realized that we are down to about 4 complete sets of crayons in our bulk Crayola box.
We use crayons many times every week to illustrate stories or draw pictures or add details to our writing.
We use the 4 color BIC ink pens to mark text features like rhyming words or quotation marks as we do our daily shared readings. Hands-on sometimes means germs-on, so we go through quite a few Clorox disinfecting wipes every week. Our supply is dangerously low just as we're entering the cold and flu season.
