Color Our World With Basic School Supplies

My Students

Do you remember the joy of receiving brand new supplies for school? Using brand new, sharpened colored pencils to write and draw with? Or creating your very first masterpiece with markers for your parents to proudly display on the refrigerator?

I teach an amazing class of 24 wonderful first graders.

There are 12 boys and 12 girls who come from a diverse, urban setting. Many come from homes that are financially challenged and cannot provide the basic school supplies. We are a group that loves to read, draw, and get involved in our daily school activities in class.

My Project

At the beginning of the school year, I buy several boxes of crayons, pencils, markers, and paper to help out the students. Our district gives us a small supply for our classroom. However, with the economic crisis our school's budget is tighter than ever. Many of my students are not able to afford markers and colored pencils for school. We write and create daily and use these products frequently. The supply runs out quickly.

My students need the basic essentials for success in the classroom... drawing paper, markers, pens, and scissors that will hopefully last for a long time.

These are all things that we use frequently on a daily basis. It is something that needs replenishing throughout the school year in our classroom. You will make it possible for my students to have the supplies they need the entire school year to be successful, confident learners.
