Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"We are a box of crayons, each one of us unique. But when we get together, the picture is more complete." This project is based on the poem, "The Crayon Box That Talked." Help my students appreciate their own differences, to prevent bullying of others.

My students are 24 beautiful and curious first graders.

Although they are considered economically disadvantaged, they do not know it. They have a rich desire to learn and do their best. My students love coming to school where they feel safe and secure in a place where they receive daily doses of knowledge, encouragement, and friendship.

My Project

This project is based on the book, The Crayon Box That Talked. The poem is about how initially, the various colors do not like each other. But after some time, they realize the importance of their differences. What if all your crayons were the same color? There would not be a blue sky, green trees, a yellow sun, red flowers. All these unique colors work together to make a beautiful picture. In the same way, student diversity makes our world more beautiful too. Crayons are such a simple and effective way to teach students how to appreciate our differences. I am requesting crayons, color pencils, and markers to highlight and celebrate this concept. Students will use the supplies to create works of art to celebrate their differences, in hopes of preventing future bullying of those that are different.

Donor stars like you are so important to classrooms like ours.

While some classrooms receive parental donations, this is not the case with most high poverty neighborhoods. All students deserve an opportunity to advance and grow, so please help give my 24 a chance too. Thank you!
