My students are part of a Title 1 school in a bilingual special education setting (ICT) in the Bronx, NY. In the classroom we use a lot of visuals and the instruction is given in both Spanish and English. We distinguish Spanish print using red and English print using blue.
My students are so bright and are eager to learn in both English and Spanish.
Each day we notice their growth in both languages and we wish to continue to nurture all of them to become fluent bilinguals.
As teachers in a neighborhood of low-income, we lack the resources to provide our students with what they deserve.
My students need a color printer in the classroom in order to receive material printed in red and/or blue so that they are able to easily differentiate the two languages of instruction.
The color printer will allow for the differentiation of our class worksheets and visual aids in order for students to succeed in the language they are most comfortable with when they walk in the classroom.
Our classroom will beam with color! It will help create interactive visual aids for our students. This will allow them to feel comfortable when doing independent work. The homework sheets we send home will also be accessible to parents so that they are also able to help their child in their native language. As the students get more comfortable learning English, they will be able to choose which language to produce their work in. Any donation to our project is greatly appreciated. We can't wait to show what a little bit of color can do for our students!
