Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students enter the classroom because they are in crisis in their school environment. They all have social/emotional and behavioral needs, while some may have even more accompanying disabilities that impact their learning. These students require substantial support from staff as well as many sensory materials, technology, etc. that are not provided in a typical classroom. The majority of my students are also from low-income households. These students are not able to access the academic curriculum to the best of their ability due to their social/emotional and behavioral needs.
My goal is to create a welcoming environment with access to materials that will engage students, build coping strategies and allow them the chance to increase their social/emotional skills as well as increase their academic performance.
My classroom is a transitioning period where students are taught coping skills and different behavioral strategies are put into place to then transition to the student to the least restrictive environment where they will then be successful.
My Project
A colored printer and ink will provide me the ability to create center games, resources, anchor charts and more that are visually engaging to their audience. Additionally, I will be able to create visual supports for students in order to increase their ability to attend, follow directions and access curriculum.
Beingin kindergarten, there are many students who it is their first school experience, may not speak English and have difficulty processing directions.
Adding colorful visual supports will aid in supporting them and their success. Additionally, it will allow me to differentiate and organize in order to create a more ready environment to support student learning.
