Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Eight and nine year olds are the best. Boys and girls are friends, they are curious about the world, and they help each other learn. Most are working hard to read, write, and think at or above grade level. Nearly all of my students know at least two languages.
This year, my students have an unusual amount of energy.
They are not afraid to try new things. They don't sit back. They are completely involved with the third grade curriculum. Our academic achievement is gaining momentum.
My Project
So much of third grade work is done online now, but my classroom still benefits from hard copies of the sequential drafts during the writing process. First, they type their stories on a computer, then they print out their creations.
Just like professional writers in Television and Film, third graders can demonstrate the changes needed to improve each version of their writing assignments using color to show their progress.
While school-issued newsprint paper is available, I have found that using color copy paper elevates student work. When I ask for quality ideas, I like to provide quality paper. It shows that I value their compositions. So they do, too. Our computer assisted math program also utilizes color paper to distinguish between between assignment types.
