Color My AP Psych World With Markers, Crayons, Colored Pens...
Help me give my students in my AP Psychology classes dry erase markers, permanent markers, colored pens, crayons, colored pencils, electric pencil sharpeners, electric staplers, folders, notebooks, PTC paper, and a set of colored Rorschach tests.
My students are a rainbow of cultural and socioeconomic diversity in a rich urban environment. They are both artistically and academically motivated in their learning as they attend an arts/performing arts high school in which they have specific majors of study in the arts. They are also college-oriented and choose rigorous preparatory coursework such as College Board-level Advanced Placement classes. They also enjoy expressing their knowledge and their art through classroom discussions and debates, group work, and hands-on experiments and projects.
My Project
Psychological research has shown that students can remember, recognize, and recall what they have learned in class more easily if they see and take notes using different colored medium. My AP Psychology students need dry erase markers, permanent markers, colored pens, crayons, and colored pencils to help create "memory retrieval cues" of color to the class' content. My students will also need electric pencil sharpeners, electric staplers, folders, notebooks, and a set of colored Rorschach Tests for their classwork, homework assignments, and projects that link the memory-enhancing creativity of the arts to their learning and application of the humanities in AP Psychology. We will also take an opportunity to explore the use of the senses of smell and taste and their effects on memory with the use of the PTC paper.
