While the Covid-19 crisis has greatly impacted each and every one of us, my goal is to rise above! I will use this colored printer to keep my fifth grade students engaged and to make their learning fun.
My students deserve some normalcy in their lives!!
In an effort to do so I would love to be able to supply my students with a colored printer.
Our school is a Title One school that serves a high poverty, culturally diverse student population of third through fifth grade. It is my mission to do my best to ensure that all students feel included, loved, and encouraged to succeed.
My Project
I am requesting a colored printer for my classroom in order to print resources, materials, visuals, handouts, games, activities, and posters needed in order for my students to better succeed. Colored printing will allow me to support creativity and innovation in my classroom. Our school does not currently have a reading curriculum, therefore I am always searching for unique ways to teach the standards and keep my students engaged.
The connection between resources printed in color, reading comprehension, and student engagement has been proven to be strong.
Color printing engages and inspires students, while facilitating the creative and critical thinking that's so important for brainstorming original ideas and developing proficiency. As a fifth grade reading teacher with an inclusion class, my goal is to reach each and every students' learning need. Materials printed in color are known to improve the educational experience for all students, however it can be life changing for students with learning disabilities, such as Dyslexia or ADHD. Colored printing, paper, and overlays have been proven as the main accommodation for students diagnosed with Dyslexia.
In order for me to meet the needs of all my students and support their learning goals, a colored printer is vital to making these adaptations, modifications, and accommodations. A color printer will benefit all of my learners (general ed and SPED) who have difficulty focusing when reading for long periods of time in today’s technology-driven age of multitasking.
Research shows that there is a direct link between colored printing and student interpretation, comprehension, and understanding. Most importantly, it is proven to aid in the retention of content covered in class. I think the impact of the colored printer will benefit all of my students in many ways and improve overall test scores.
