Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a proud art teacher in a Title l elementary school. I teach special prekindergarten students who are ESE and I also teach autism clusters. I'm lacking in school supplies and am dependent on fundraising.
My school has a diverse ethnic population consisting of African American, White, Spanish, Brazilian, and Asian students.
I teach my students about famous artists, art history, and incorporate multicultural projects. I teach across the curriculum incorporating Common Core and technology-infused lessons through the arts.
My students participate in many community art shows and have won numerous awards. Each year we participate in Art from the Heart ~ Projects with a Purpose and give back through humanitarian and community service-based art projects. They learn character traits and leadership skills.
My Project
I had to change the way I deliver my instruction for virtual learning to my art students for their safety.
My students in Kindergarten and autism clusters will learn how to work with Crayola Model Magic Clay by having experiences of mixing clay and creating their favorite animals.
Students will learn about primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) first through a special song and role-playing virtually and pointing and naming colors.
Next, my students will explore the science of mixing primary colors and observe secondary colors—green, purple, and orange. I can't wait to see their reactions!
After they have created their small balls of different colors, I will teach basic math concepts of creating various shapes like spheres, rectangles, and ovals out of the various colors of clay.
Students will have a choice to create their favorite animals like cats, dogs, or birds.
Many subjects are being incorporated in this project: art, music, science, and math.
Students are also using pre-writing and fine motor skills and will be given access to an exciting art medium to work with.
