My students need a color printer and ink for our projects! These items (instant ink subscription for a year) would allow for greater motivation to complete assignments throughout the year and increase learning.
I teach fourth and fifth graders at an inner-city school in Boston. We are a Title 1 school as 100% of our students are on free/reduced lunch. Our school specializes in servicing students with severe social emotional and behavioral issues.
Many of them have experienced trauma early in their lives and have difficulty coming to school and be available to learn.
We have students that range from a second grade reading level to a high school reading level. Being able to differentiate instruction and push their learning requires an abundance of resources!
Our students tend to learn in different ways as well. Our first goal is supporting their social and emotional needs so that they can be available during the school day. We utilize many different tools to engage students and motivate them. These students are special and deserve to have resources that will allow them to access the curriculums!
The materials in this project will help our students to become more engaged in their learning by allowing them to work in color! This printer allows for mobile printing and a subscription to HP's instant ink. Instant Ink will allow us to work throughout the year without costing as much as purchasing traditional ink cartridges. My students and I currently do not have access to color printing, and as such our projects are suffering. We utilize our supplies of colored pencils and markers along with items I purchase to jazz up their work (colored tape, stickers, etc); however it would be motivating for them to complete projects if they had the ability to make them better with this technology. Additionally, most of my students are visual learners. Having the ability to print models and use color to enhance their understanding of the materials goes a long way! They would also benefit from my ability to print out behavior plans, visual schedules, and even pictures of us would positively reinforce our classroom community.
