My students need a color printer and 4 various colored toners in order to see what the world they are studying looks like in something other than black and white.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 6th Grade students are studying the United States, while my 7th Grade students are taking a look at European and Asia Countries. Every quarter the students are to present a country or state to the class through presentation boards and travel brochures that they create.
My students come from very diverse backgrounds.
Some come from parents who are not legally in the country; some are legally here but are new to our customs. On he other hand, others come from influential parents. Interestingly, most of them are very eager to learn about all the possibilities of visiting the places we study and about the different cultures they would experience. It's hard to bring their studies alive for them if they cannot experience it in color as they research and prepare to tell their classmates of their findings.
My Project
My students are learning through presentations about the countries or States that we are studying. For example, my 6th grade kids have been assigned one of the States to bring to life for the rest of their classmates. They have to write a 500 word essay over the State, create a presentation board and/or travel brochure, and give an oral presentation over what they find. By the end of the school year, I am hoping all of my students want to take a trip all over the United States to see the features each state has to offer.
My 7th Grade class have the European countries, Australian and Asian countries to present. They are also presenting countries for their classmates. Through the use of the color copier, I think these kids will find the world an amazing place with really stunning geographical views of the landforms, oceans/lakes and animals.
I am fascinated with the world in which we live.
There is not a day that goes by that I don't see a color picture that makes me appreciate the splendor and beauty of the Earth. My students need to see this too! Our school only has black and white printers, for which I am very thankful. However, when my students come to my class to work on their presentations, it's just not the same to see a beautiful, red orangutan that has to be printed out as black and white. It loses something.
