Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are freshman, sophomores, and juniors, all with Learning Disabilities/Dyslexia. My students require multi-modes of input to learn. They receive their English and reading classes in an instructional, self-contained setting to provide intensive supports in Reading in a small group setting. They are part of a Multi-Sensory Reading Program, which is a highly structured program using many styles of learning to help students who are either non-readers or far below their grade level.
My students are highly motivated by technology, but due to the lack of technology in the school, the students do not have the ability to have this available to them at all times.
Our school is located in a high poverty area, so there are limited resources in the community as well as in the school. My students need hands-on opportunities to learn new skills.
My Project
The Eco-Tank color printer will allow me to print materials for the students that are engaging and appropriate to their level. My students are part of a multi-sensory reading program for students who are either non-readers or below a second grade level. Many of the multi-sensory materials and resources to support their needs require color which is an integral part of the learning process in a multisensory program. Students learn with visuals and different colors to access a different type of learning.
In the school, we only have access to black and white printers and copiers which makes it difficult to provide appropriate multisensory materials.
This printer will allow our classroom to have appropriate visual and multi-sensory supports to help students achieve.
