My students are awesome to say the least. My students are all living with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I have a variety of levels ranging from low to mid functioning. Some of my students are able to read and write, while some require a more modified learning environment. My school services low income families from a variety of backgrounds. I currently have some students who are homeless and some who come from unstable homes. My goal as their teacher is to provide them with the most nurturing and fun learning environment, where they are proud of what they can accomplish, despite adversities. This is the second year for the Autism program at my school, and the challenge with most new programs is the lack of adequate resources. My students love learning new things but it has been challenging being able to reach them academically with the current resources that I have. All of my students have different educational needs and require different levels of support and materials. As a teacher who truly cares about her students, I want to provide them with the best education possible.
My Project
Sometimes all you need is a little splash of color! These materials will make a difference in my students learning by providing them with materials that catch their eye. My students benefit from modified materials that are bright and appealing. They enjoy working on their daily task cards. Having them in color appeals to them more versus plain black and white print. Most of the task cards include pictures for beginning letter sounds, rhymning words, and ending letter sounds.
Finding ways to make materials last longer is a challenge, but I accept it!
I also have some students who like to get the full experience and taste their work, and i would like to be able to preserve the materials for as long as possible. Being able to laminate their materials makes the destruction process a little more challenging!
