Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a Title I school, which means many of the students live in poverty and have parents that struggle to provide resources for the classroom. Teachers spend a lot of their own money to provide engaging and interactive learning experiences. Some of the students may not have a lot, but they do what they can to show how much they love us. Sometimes Christmas gifts are things found at home, like cheese sandwiches, hotel shampoo, or hairbrushes. In these cases, it really is the thought that counts, because we see on their faces how it is given in love.
Some of my students come from broken homes, but we do what we can to make school a safe and loving place.
Our school also has a high ESOL population. Our goal is to create projects that meet the needs of all students. We are excited for the opportunity to partner with people to help fund projects for our class. This creates an opportunity to show students the kindness of strangers, and teach what it means to give.
My Project
We are currently not in the classroom, these materials will be used next school year. I had gift cards through donors choose that were about to expire. I figured it was a good time to plan for the future.
Writing in Florida requires students to color code essays.
A lot of students use crayons, but it is so big that it distracts from the writing. Using pens is a great way to color code without out distracting from the work. Black and blue pens are easy to find, green and purple on the other hand is harder to come by.
