Many of our students participate in a backpack food program to have food on the weekends, and our school offers a monthly food bank for the entire community, which many students' families use. We are diverse with Hispanic, Haitian, Philippine, and American families.
I teach at a Title I school in Southwest Florida with students from all walks of life who deserve the same opportunities as those from affluent families.
Our students are caring, considerate and hard working. Despite the low-income conditions, they deserve resources that will be current and interesting. Not being able to provide them the best is heartbreaking. Each year, as a new school year begins, I build the bonds that keep me inspired to do everything possible for them.
My Project
I am requesting to purchase a laser color printer for our computer/technology lab so that I can have access to print our students work. This will allow them to take home projects to share with their families. We do many activities that link literature to digital art and students are always so excited about their project, but without access to a color printer, the only have their memories to remember what they created and are unable to share with their families.
A colored printer, ink and paper will make art and technology come to life!
Collaborating with our art teacher, we plan to share children's literature with our students, then students will create a digital project using digital art applications such as FreshPaint. Having a printer, I will be able to print their art work, then in their art class, they will use art materials to create similar art creations. We would love to recreate books to share with their homeroom classes and also in our library.
