Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I want my students to be more engaged in the learning process, turning in homework assignments, and passing assessments by the end of the school year. Our biggest challenge is student participation in lessons.
66.4% of our students are economically disadvantaged.
This status can mean that they have little parent involvement. It also means that our families may have low academic achievement. This leads to limited resources at home to help them in their education. 44% of our students are at-risk of dropping out. Our goal is to keep these students engaged in learning and active in their education. Math is a subject that can be difficult for many students. We are trying to reach those with different learning styles.
My Project
The 8th grade math team has decided to implement interactive student notebooks in the classroom this year to enhance student engagement in learning. These notebooks will include foldables, graphic organizers, and STAAR test preparation materials. The foldables are interactive study notes for the students to refer back to and practice before a test. We will use them every day in our classroom and it will greatly benefit the students to have something besides a textbook to refer back to.
This printer will have an impact on over 300 students.
Three 8th grade math teachers will be utilizing the printer. The materials that we have for this project are created in full color and currently, we only have the resources to print in gray scale black and white on our campus. We will use test scores and homework completion to measure success of the project. Research has shown students not engaged in learning are less likely to do well on tests and turn in homework assignments.
