Color and Creativity Go Hand in Hand for Little Hands
My students need a dozen sets of spill proof, vibrant tempera cake paints for self expression and projects.
This project expired on April 12, 2011.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Young kids are by nature messy, but certain materials minimize the risk. Having solid tempera paints would allow my students to work without the risk of spilling.
This two room schoolhouse set in the Sierra Nevada foothills is a Gold Rush Era legacy.
The 19 students in K-2 are vibrant, inquisitive learners, who love using technology and art skills to communicate their thoughts and feelings. With only 30 students, the school has a real family atmosphere. Because they stay with the same teacher for multiple years, the bond becomes quite strong. The older and younger students interact frequently and freely, increasing the learning of all. As they say, to really learn something, teach it to someone else.
Watercolors are so washed out! But they are so neat and tidy, that as a teacher they are the "go to" for art lessons. However, tempera cakes are much more vivid and lively, and yet have the same ease of use. They come in nine color trays that are easy to distribute, and clean up at the end. I am requesting enough for each pair of students to share a set. They will be able to illustrate their stories, create their own books, illustrate their science journals, and make thank you cards for our fabulous donors.
Art is disappearing from the schools at an alarming rate while the push for "standards based instruction" chokes out the time and the budget chokes out the supplies.
Don't let children be silenced. Their creativity is at a peak when they enter school, and they need careful nurturing not to stifle or frustrate them. Help them by providing the tools that they can use easily.
