My students need various types of heavy paper for quilling, and colored paper and pens to make alphabet samplers during our "Colonial Days" study.

My Students

What was life like before electricity? Before computers? My students struggle to imagine what life was like during the settlement of our country.

My students come from a heavily populated area and have very different backgrounds.

They are bright, curious, and love learning in non-traditional ways. Our school is high performing and almost half the students come from low socio-economic families.

My Project

The art resources I am requesting include various types of paper and mat boards and will be used during a month-long 'Colonial Days' study. The arts of paper quilling and alphabet samplers were quite popular during times of scarce resources. Students cannot imagine being without modern resources and creating art using simple materials, such as paper, will not only spark their imaginations, but will help them to think in more innovative ways in their everyday lives.

The Colonial Art project will help students understand that simple things can be just as beautiful and fulfilling as all of the trappings of our modern life.

Hopefully, students can carry this feeling into their daily lives.
