Our students are fun loving and curious, they love to have hands on projects that help them connect with the curriculum. I feel that they have a better appreciation and understanding when they can do projects that help them connect with the past. We have representatives from different countries, cultures and demographics. The students are caring towards each other and love to work together to explore their world and use art to understand their classroom curriculum.
My Project
The best way to connect with history is to experience a part of it. Hands on learning has been proven to help students gain greater understanding of the subjects they are being taught. My goal for this project it for students to understand the hard work and effort early settlers had to endure to survive, they couldn't just run to Wal Mart.
My students will use the Amaco white art clay, the clay tools and glazes we receive from Donor's choose to create their own bowls.
They will also have an opportunity to learn the science of how glazing works. The bowls will be smaller than the bowls Colonial Americans would have made, but this will give the students a chance to see how difficult it was to make
