Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are a collection of bright, wonderful, charismatic individuals, who make coming to work a joy. The majority of my students come from a single family, female led household. Most of them come from a low socioeconomic background but that truly is rarely a factor in how they carry themselves and present themselves to the world.

The students in my school primarily come from the community and they are a prime example of how education affects future generations.

One day my students will be the police officers, mayors, nurses and business owners of this community. I work diligently every day to make sure my students know how important they are individually and how their accomplishments will one day impact this community, their homes for the better.

My Project

The items that I am asking for will be used to help those students who are transitioning to college with little to no resources. The goal of our College Signing Day event is to help as many students as possible make a smooth transition to their post secondary institutions rather that be college or trade school.

I chose common dorm items that all students need, such as microwaves, refrigerators because I felt these would be the most useful to the student and their family.

It is often difficult to secure enough money for dormitory deposits and books at the beginning of the term and I figured these items would relieve some of that burden.

I wanted my students to know that I do recognize all of the hard work they put forth day after day even with the numerous challenges they may endure. Also, when we present these items at our College Signing Day event this will motivate the underclassmen to take post secondary education more seriously. I see these items as not only motivational tools but as a way to give back and service a community that has allowed myself and staff to become of apart of their childrens lives.
