My students need supplies to help them achieve success in college. We will award a laptop and mini-fridge as grand prizes at our event plus many smaller prizes to students committed to attending college next year!
Our students are part of a community in northeast Michigan with high rates of first-time college attendees and high poverty rates. Our three school counselors and full-time college adviser have been working with our 280 seniors to help them apply to colleges, complete financial aid forms, and decide which college is the best fit for their goals.
Seventy percent of our seniors have been accepted to a two- or four-year college and we want to celebrate this achievement and their decision to pursue post-secondary education!
We also hope this celebration will encourage younger students, especially those who would be the first in their families to attend college, to consider college as part of their post-high school plan for themselves!
My Project
We are holding an all-school College Signing Day event on May 18, 2018 to celebrate students pursuing education and training beyond high school in order to increase their future career opportunities.
Our College Signing Day is inspired by NCAA's Signing Day, where future college athletes sign their letter of intent, and we want to promote the same level of excitement for all students that are investing in their future!
Graduating seniors who have taken the steps to enroll in college will be recognized in front of their peers for this commitment to post-secondary education. We plan to utilize prize giveaways to reward students for their hard work in high school and help them achieve success in college.
The items we are requesting will be given to seniors that have enrolled in college and applied for financial aid. The laptop and mini-fridge will serve as two grand prizes. Various smaller prizes (gift cards, portable speakers, college T-shirts, etc.) will be purchased largely with other funds.
