Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a non-screening school because we believe every child has the right to learn and dream big. 75% of our students are eligible for free or reduced lunch. Two-thirds of our seniors will be the first in their families to attend college. At our school, we have a vibrant advisory program that focuses on the inseparable connection between social/emotional learning and academic success.
Our students will change the future for their families as the next take step towards college.
My Project
College Signing Day will celebrate the senior classes work from our December celebration of the college app process to deciding where to attend college.
Our day of celebration will also be a day of inspiration for the 9th-11th graders at our school.
By making a college-going culture the coolest thing to be a part of, we will make sure that our school community understands that hard work will pay off!
Our huge celebration will include a school-wide assembly in which underclassmen will present our seniors with decorated shout-out pennants. Our seniors will announce their signing commitment to the student body. Seniors will then participate in a series of activities set up by the junior class at different stations: banner signing, letters to future self, Photo ops with props, lunch, and cupcakes.
At our celebration, students will increase their chances for winning the toiletry kits, speakers, charger and Samsung tablet door prizes by having had excellent attendance, being on the honor roll, or receiving role model nominations.
Some of the materials we are requesting support with obtaining will be used for decorations.The balloons and air pump will be used for decorating the auditorium and the library, which where the festivities will take place. We plan to make individualized commitment signing day certificates with the certificate paper. Our art club & freshmen with senior mentors will use the felt fabric and pre-cut pennants to decorate personalized pennants for each senior that has committed to a college.
the remaining supplies will need for our Senior celebration stations. We will use the cupcake materials to display personalized college cupcakes that our staff will be baking. The Polaroid paper will be used for our selfie station.
