Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are bright, dedicated, and caring individuals. They have strong values and know the meaning of hard work. Many of my students help their families out with chores, childcare, or even financially through a part-time job. Despite their large responsibilities to their family, they still come to class ready and prepared to learn.
Many of my students will be the first in their families to earn a college degree.
Because of this, they often stay close to home and settle for one of the local colleges. As a teacher, I want the best for my hardworking students. I not only want to make sure they are academically prepared for college but that they also have the confidence to apply to colleges outside of El Paso.
My Project
While this has certainly been an unprecedented year, it has posed various challenges for our seniors. They have been unable to have a Homecoming, or spend their last year walking through the halls of Del Valle.
This project is for shirts and colorful vinyl that will be used to create college shirts for seniors on our campus to inspire and motivate them to reach for that higher education.
We want students to know that they can look beyond the walls of the home to the many opportunities available to them. Even if they aren't sure about higher education, a college shirt is inspirational for everyone.
In designing a college shirt for students, they will be given the opportunity to choose their shirt and proudly wear it on Wednesdays throughout the year. We want them to aspire to MIT, BU, Texas Tech, UT Austin... the possibilities are endless!
