This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school in SE Washington DC, and my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
Our students are eager and prepared to learn.
I want to allow them all opportunities to learn and give them the chance to access all classroom material. The need for classroom essentials is important to their growth. A lot of their independent learning is done through technology, and headphones are essential to their continued learning. As well as to prepare them for college, the theme of the classroom will be college and sports and all the materials will help support their learning within the classroom. Students also need materials for their chairs. Book covers will allow easy access to grade level text.
My Project
My 2nd-grade students need to see and learn about all college opportunities. Such as college vocabulary, various colleges/universities, college behavior and college experiences. The materials needed will support students in developing goals and looking towards their future education. My hope is to be able to create a classroom space for all students to learn about colleges and universities. With these supplies, students can gain motivation towards college readiness. They will learn about all opportunities and also use "college bound" as a behavior technique to redirect off-task behavior. These supplies will enhance our classroom and learning environment for the entire year. These supplies also will allow students to access the curriculum through technology, the need for headphones is essential to their growth in our online curriculum as well. We also need book covers to hang on the back of our chairs. This will help students to keep books in their chair. We do daily DEAR time to prepare students to be able to read independently.
