This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
There are 31 incredible students in my class, but just 1 and a half (so 2 technically, but the screen is so blurry you feel like you need glasses to look at it) working computers. On average each student can use the computers (including the semi broken one) for just 15 minutes, twice a month.
Nearly my entire kindergarten class began this year below grade level.
Yes, behind already even before some of them had ever set foot in a classroom. But despite those odds, we are well on our way towards achieving our goals together, for success this year and in paving the beginning of the path on a journey to go to college and beyond as lifelong learners and leaders. These 5, 6 and 7 year olds are incredible balls of energy and joy who are ecstatic at an opportunity to learn something new, especially anything that pushes them toward the next big step in their lives - which right now is first grade!
My Project
The tablets I am requesting for my inquisitive, hard working students will enable them to begin exploring and learning content exactly on their level, while introducing them to technological skills that are increasingly irreplaceable in our 21st century world. These tablets can be used independently during centers time and for small group work during interventions, as well as to simply infuse joy into the hard work we do all day long. The variety of programs available through apps will enable me to differentiate learning to push every student in my classroom to his/her fullest potential. This will also increase the value of independent time for my most struggling students as the programs can talk to and continue to aid them in a way the other centers I currently have simply can't do.
These tablets will make a lasting difference in the lives of every student in my classroom, as they bring the tools for my students to grow exponentially, not only while learning with me or with other students but also ensuring that purposeful learning is always happening, even if it is disguised as fun and games!
These tablets will help my students reach first grade and become more technologically savvy. Computer time multiple times a week? My students need your help to make this a reality!
