College Application Chromebooks for Dreamers

My students need a set of seven Chromebook laptops for dedicated use throughout the year. Our school has scarce resources and often seniors do not have access to laptops for college applications.

My Students

My 12th grade students share a common desire to attend a four year college and shatter the stereotypes that tell them they can't. They attend an inner city high school with an unjust reputation for violence and low academic performance. In one of the wealthiest cities on the planet, my students have always had to work twice as hard with the limited resources they are given.

My students dare to dream.

Many of my students are immigrants, some of them undocumented or in immigration limbo. Many of my students live in public housing and nearly every student will be the first to attend college. Although my students do not have the same resources as most kids applying to college, they have unwavering determination and grit to attend the best universities.

My Project

This class set of seven Dell Chromebook laptops will ensure that students have guaranteed access to a computer when they embark on the college application journey. Students will use the laptops to write personal statements, complete applications, apply for financial aid and scholarships, scan and submit documents, complete student housing forms, and most importantly, complete classroom projects, and get accustomed to using a laptop as an essential academic tool they will need in college.

College applications and scholarship applications should never be completed on a cell phone, yet that is often the only option my students have due to lack of resources at our inner city public school in San Francisco.

Seniors at my school do not have sufficient access to computers when they need it most. Often students ask if they can use my teacher laptop to complete their applications.
