My students need 12 Amazon Fire Tablets in order to accomplish college and career exploration in the Guidance classroom rather than having to wait until the Computer Lab is available.
Our school is a small public, rural school with 260 students enrolled for daily instruction. We are in a rural community of 10,046 residents, with a high industrial economy, however our school also in a low income area. Despite this, I feel my students still deserve to have all we can provide for them. I buy a lot of things myself, but it is difficult to purchase everything we need. My students are smart, and creative in grades ranging from grades K-5. As the School Counselor, TN State Standards require college and career readiness skills/exploration for elementary school students. My students get to explore career opportunities available here in our community and beyond. Often my students are not aware of the education needed, potential earnings, or opportunities for advancement in specific jobs. I have to schedule the computer lab in order to allow my students time to explore. I would like to have a class set of Amazon Fire Tablets (12) to use in my classroom because I lack classroom computers for my students to use. Twelve tablets would allow one class to use them (2 students to 1 tablet).
My Project
As a School Counselor, it is my responsibility to ensure that my students are college and career ready. Our small rural school has two computer labs that we share school wide. Often times it is hard to schedule my classes in the computer lab due to time and availability.
Having a set of Amazon Fire Tablets would allow my students the opportunity to explore career options beyond our small community and expand their horizons.
They would see that the world is a big place and their potential in it is limitless with the right education and training. My responsibility to my students is to help them see the BIG PICTURE and DREAM BIG!
