College and Career Essentials: Things That Will Make A Difference
Help me give my students (1) Laptop, (2) tablets, (2) shower caddies, pillows, (2) twin xl bed sheets and comforter, and (2) book bags to help them feel prepared for college!
My students are part of the only high school in the city of Woonsocket, with a population over 15 hundreds student. The senior class learns in one of the most culturally diverse high school in the state of Rhode Island. I believe that because of the diversity in the school the students are influence to be more creative, passionate and empathetic. I see how proud my students are to be part of such a unique community that embraces their backgrounds and culture. Everyday I see how they empowered each other.
The senior class is composed of diverse talented and dedicated students, with passions to out growth the stereotypes of being part of a underprivileged community.
I see student push themselves to their ultimate potential. I want to help my students achieve their goals, no matter what that might be. But sometimes is hard when you come from a low-income community and when people already have preconceive notions about you and the place you come from. The need in my high school it great, but the need of my student to create better lives for themselves and break stereotypes is greater.
My Project
In May I am planning an event called Decision Day to celebrate the senior class of 2020 and their post-secondary accomplishments and decisions. A lot of my students come from low-income communities and many of them have expressed their concerns about not having enough money to pay for college or trade school. They have also talked to me about not having the necessary materials that will help them succeed in college or their career paths after high school.
My goal with this project is to at least provide them with some of these materials that will help them succeed in the future.
And to alleviate some of the stress that comes with not having the necessary funds. I want to give them a leg-up with some of these materials, even if is something as small as a bed-sheet. The products that I chose will ease their minds and help them focus on saving money for tuition and other necessities. My students will be so grateful to receive at least one of these materials. I hope you consider helping my students with your contribution, which I'm sure will make a difference in one of their lives.
