Collecting New Vocab as Brilliant, Bilingual Learners!
My students need a group's worth of Amazon Fire tablets and protective cases so they may use them as talking, bilingual and visual dictionaries as they read and listen to unfamiliar words and phrases.
My English learners are in the mountains and foothills of North Carolina. They come to school enthusiastic and curious to learn new words, phrases, and longer discourse.
The more language they learn, the more they can communicate and share unique cultural experiences with their classmates to bring an atmosphere of joy and diversity.
Their superpower is their increasing knowledge of two languages. We love how they share stories!
Language power makes them well equipped to be creative, contributing citizens in our society.
My Project
These tablets, which are basic and intended to be used as visual, talking bilingual dictionaries, are essential to my English learners' success while they read and listen to the unfamiliar language.
The immediate gratification of having access to a picture right at their fingertips, as well as being able to hear the word in their first language through a translate app, is a catalyst for their development of rich language.
Finally, the tablets are similar to devices, such as phones, that many of their parents carry. So, it is likely that the students will transfer the learned, word exploration skills to continue their language journey at home.
