Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students just get better and better every year. They appreciate the tools they have been given and see the impact of DonorsChoose.org projects every time a new box is delivered to the school. These students, who range from middle-class families to homeless families, love music class and I couldn't possibly be filled with more joy than when I get to see them learn, grow, and create in class. Our school is Title I, and many depend on the school for breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack provided by aftercare.
My students are incredible music makers, and I want them to have all of the tools to make their efforts sound amazing.
My Project
It has been two years now since the students at my school have been able to play our ukuleles. Our new music room does not have the wall space to hang them with hooks as we had done in the past, and now the baritone ukuleles are sitting in a cabinet stacked on top of each other. My students need this rolling storage rack for guitars to safely house our schools baritone ukuleles.
My 5th graders from last year were so upset knowing they would not be able to use the ukuleles, due only to their lack of safe storage.
I don't want to disappoint any more classes of students due to not having a specific piece of classroom furniture. My students are missing out on songwriting projects, pop-song play alongs, and a pivotal stepping stone to playing guitar in middle school. My students will also be able to see what it takes to take care of an instrument - the correct storage!
