I love teaching my first grade students. Each year I am given the opportunity to work with students who come to me with a variety of backgrounds, learning styles and diverse needs. The one thing they all have in common is that they are excited about being in school and learning. They are inquisitive, creative and full of questions!
My students are constantly engaged in hands-on activities, projects, and challenges that provide them with opportunities to explore different solutions.
They often choose to utilize different learning areas within our classroom in order to facilitate individual styles. They are given choice and responsibility which increases understanding and learning.
My Project
My goal is to create spaces that promote deep learning and engagement through design. Research has shown how the environment affects learning so I want to design a flexible, comfortable, calm learning space that is conducive to everyone’s learning styles. I would love to retire the tables in my classroom and give my students the resources they deserve to help them prosper. I have selected collaborative flower-shaped tables that will promote collaboration among peers. These tables empower the student to be an active participant in the learning process. This space will be conducive to center and station work. These lessons focus on student interest, learning profiles, and readiness. Overall, these tables will foster an engaging and comfortable workspace for my students to feel comfortable and motivated to learn! Right now, your generosity has provided my students with two tables, and they have been loving them! I am just in need of one more so that every child in my class gets to have a seat at one of these collaborative tables!
