This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students live in a high-poverty neighborhood and have experienced more challenges than anyone ever should. The students come from all different backgrounds, but most come from homes where there are economic struggles. These struggles infiltrate the academic environment and progress of this population.
We, as educators, must provide differentiated opportunities to express students' applied knowledge in authentic ways.
Providing this opportunity reflects best practices to support the development of the urban student as we strive to prepare these students for college and career readiness.
My Project
My students love playing board games and card games during indoor recess. They also provide a wonderful avenue for them to practice their cooperative learning and turn taking skills. Sadly, the games and activities that I have had in my classroom are beginning to show wear and tear, as well as missing parts!
These board games, card games and puzzles will refresh the indoor recess options in my classroom.
My students need ways to practice social skills through games like Uno, Guess Who and Sorry to help prepare them for group work in school and the work place. What better way to practice getting along and working cooperatively than through fun games?
