My students need educational and creative options for indoor recess! I want to make sure they have STEM toys to encourage engineering, science, and math! As well as art supplies to keep their creative energy flowing!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come into my classroom full of life and energy! I refer to us as a "squad" rather than a class because I want them to have a sense of community when they are with me and feel like they belong somewhere. Our school has a very diverse population and I want to bring all of my students together through reading and writing. It is my hope to inspire a spark in them so they develop a love for lifelong learning!
The students are 5th graders from an urban school in Connecticut.
Many of them don't have someone to read with them at night partly because many of the students come from households where English isn't the primary language. They are excited to explore the possibilities reading and writing can bring to them and I am excited to hopefully provide all the supplies they will need!

My Project
Indoor recess has become more common now that the weather has dropped and I want to make sure my students have the supplies they need in order to be creative and continue learning. STEM activities have become a huge push in the public schools and I want to make sure I have the supplies available to my students that engage that kind of learning and teamwork.
I feel like it is my responsibility to show my students the many different avenues they can explore through learning and how it doesn't only have to be restricted to text books and worksheets.
Many of my students don't have access to STEM and art supplies at home so I want to make sure I can expose them to these different things.
Also, having these types of supplies readily available in my classroom will allow my students with learning differences or specials needs who need to keep their hands busy, to be more successful!
