My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Some have never left the city, and others have made many military moves. Many face challenges they must overcome in order to reach their full potential. They love to be challenged and thrive when they are given new opportunities to learn and grow. They work hard and love positive attention and reinforcement. I strive every year to set up a positive learning environment that will allow all of my students to learn and work in a way that best suits their learning style.
The school itself strives to provide access to new technology and also social emotional learning.
One way we strive to fill both needs is to use their interest in technology to do collaborative projects where communicating and working together is necessary.
My Project
We have recently come up with some fantastic lessons involving coding Ozobots. Recently my class was able to borrow some Ozobots from another school to complete a lesson where they had to work with a partner to order events from the Civil War, determine the path the robot had to follow, then code the directions so the Ozobot would follow the correct path. The kids loved it! They struggled, they re-started, but they persisted.
I'm requesting four Evo App-Connected Coding Robots.
This activity lends itself to be easily modified to other grade levels (our second graders are trying something today), can be used across the spectrum of academic areas and contributes to social emotional learning through the collaboration and struggle. Right now our school only has 3 Ozobots, getting four more will allow us to have enough to check out for a small group activity.
