In our class, we are family. I have 27 students that come from different walks of life. Being located just outside of Champaign, Illinois, students come from all over the world, yet some have never left our county. The special thing about it is that that they have come together to mesh as one family. I teach students with severe disabilities, with gifted talents, as well as kids who need extra movement within their day to be able to learn. We are all included in our classroom, where we work together as a team.
My students learn best by doing.
To grow my students even further than our standard Science, Math, Reading, and Writing lessons, I want to give them every opportunity to explore their talents. I would like to provide a time where kids can explore about topics they are passionate about. To have a rich hands-on experience, and not even know they are working their brain muscles in the process.
My classroom is small.
There are not very many places for kids to sit and read or work together outside of the front carpet. Because of this, kids have to sit on the floor when reading together.
I want to set up a collaboration nook in my classroom where learners can work together in a comfortable spot. This couch will be the perfect size and shape for students to sit and lean when working together.
This will be the first project of many as I try to flip my classroom from a teacher to student focused classroom to a student centered classroom with flexible seating.
