Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My chorus students have started learning and exploring instruments. We currently have pianos and guitars that students get to learn. Many of my students are really excited to learn guitar to either connect with their family and/or friends through music to play with their loved ones at home. Right now we have guitars, but not enough for all students in the classroom. Having enough instruments for all students in the classroom can help all student learn on an instrument at the same time. As well as, have flexibility to allow students to bring an instrument home to practice and share with family and friends the work that they’ve been doing in class outside of a concert performance.
My Project
These guitars will help supplement and support my kinesthetic learners, and expand all student understanding of music theory. We are working towards learning chords to eventually accompany our songs that we’re singing in chorus. In class this year, my students were struggling with collaboration when the overall focus was singing, but since the introduction of instruments, students have been working together, helping one another, sharing and cheering each other on in their successes. With these guitars all my students will have an instrument at the same time to have more time to practice skills that they are working on and have flexibility to allow students to bring instruments home.
