My Students

We are a first grade classroom in a rural Minnesota community. We have a large number of migrant families that are a part of our class in both the fall and spring.

We strive to provide our students with authentic experiences and the best opportunities that we can in a small school.

We have a positive culture that promotes reading and math. But we also have a great emphasis in technology and take pride in the opportunities that we are giving our students to collaborate, create, communicate, and think critically.

My Project

My students love coding and using their devices to learn. However, I want them to still have the tactile experience of manipulatives while they are learning. The Osmo kits that I am requesting for my classroom will do just that. Students are able to work on reading skills like short and long vowels, blends, and other spelling rules with the letter tiles. They will also be able to work on math skills with the number tiles. The coding games will enable them to practice coding in a way that we have not been able to do in the past. It will help them to build a foundation for these skills in a very fun way that will help them in the future.
