My students need Chromebooks to ensure access to materials at a variety of levels and prepare them for a digital workforce. Many students do not have access to technology at home, this would help bridge that.
My class is a substantially separate Special Education classroom, for students with Specific Learning Disabilities. On top of having a learning disability, 100% of my students qualify for our free lunch program, and many of my students suffer from social/emotional needs that require therapy and additional resources outside of the classroom.
Every day, these students walk into the classroom, eager to learn and find comfort in the learning environment.

My Project
Teaching in a substantially separate special education classroom, I need to make sure that my students are accessing grade level material - at my students' own learning levels. This can be a challenge when only using prescribed curriculums. Having Chromebooks in the classroom help students access materials online - from research articles to our local branch library. Additionally, students are able to access Google Classroom, where many of our classroom assignments can be found. By placing these 6 Chromebooks in our classroom, it would bring my students to a 2:1 ratio when accessing technology. There are many platforms and programs available through Chromebooks that reinforce personalized learning, and meeting the students' individual needs.
Research has shown that one of the benefits of having Chromebooks in the classroom, is working towards closing the achievement gap.
Many of my students do not have access to the internet at home, and most of those same houses cannot afford to have a device for their children to use at home. Providing my students with Chromebooks, and internet access helps them gain the access they need to ensure learning at a personalized level.
