Cold Vikings Need to Come to School

My Students

Our school is a haven, a place where kids can work toward a common goal. Our students need somewhere safe to be, a place off of the tough, local streets. Kids at our school learn commitment, teamwork, and pride, as well as academic skills.

I am the 7-12th grade chorus teacher.

I also teach 7th grade General Music, High School Integrated Arts, and an alternative elective class for our Transition students. Our students are vibrant and love to be the center of attention. All of the students in our school receive free breakfast and lunch, and there are after-school activities that serve extra meals so kids don't go hungry.

However, our budget is non-existent. Our building is old and hasn't been updated much since it was originally built in the early 1900s.

My Project

My students walk to school year round. The district only provides busses for students who are over a mile away from the school. This means that my kids are walking to school in hoodies and light jackets - they're not prepared for the winter weather.

These coats will be available to students who need them.

I know that there are kids who come to school thoroughly unprepared for the weather, but they suffer through it to get an education. These jackets will help to keep students warm and safe while they're walking to the building.
