We teach one hundred and forty-four energetic 3rd graders in our small coastal town in South Carolina. Our Students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds and represent various ethnicities, learning styles, and ability levels. Our students are hard workers but can become easily distracted. Our students are very busy, enjoy working together and love using technology. Every day we are learning new ideas and applying our learning during hands-on activities. We love to work around the room during partner work and stations. Our students are problem solvers and are eager to try new things. They enjoy having a choice in their learning and are developing their independence everyday.
My Project
Many science experiments require the use of ice and perishable goods. A refrigerator in the Science classroom will allow the third grade teachers at our school to keep these items on hand at all times allowing students to do experiments that they were unable to do before. For example, the changing of matter requires the use of a refrigerator to make ice or jell-o. With a refrigerator in the Science Classroom we will be able to house materials for use with many different types of experiments such as the changing of temperature.
Students will be able to participate in experiments that are more engaging and inquiry based.
You can see the students eyes light up when you say, "We are going to the Science Lab." Students love Science and with a refrigerator it will allow us to conduct more exciting experiments in our Science classroom.
