My students need these items as the coffee bar business is expanding! we feel very successful and are pleased to be learning about making and delivering hot drinks.
My students are a part of an intense interventions, special education program at their local high school. These students are in a transitional education class called the Young Adult Program which teaches vocational and daily living skills and how to best be a part of their community after their high school services are completed.
To best meet these educational needs, I am creating a program where my students can learn through hands on experiences and opportunities.
I also am looking for activities that help my students ets interact with their non disabled peers and community members.
My Project
In December my classroom began a coffee bar business. Through this vocational experience students had experiences with functional math lessons like making change, telling time and sorting several varieties of creamers and coffee pods. Students also learned daily living and fine motor skills by using a Keurig machine. Additionally, they are using technology by reading a google sheet where orders are shown. Students are also following directions and navigating our school building. This program has been so successful that we now require extra equipment to expand to another school building. We are thrilled to be learning and growing because of our entrepreneurial experiences. I hope to acquire a coffee cart that we can push around the school with our orders. This cart will help us fulfill our orders in a timely and organized fashion. Additional items that I am asking for include condiments such as a variety of creamers and sweeteners. These items make purchasing hot beveridges from our business very special for our school staff.
